Mode à Mela
Policies
How we handle your information, your order, and your garment. Written plainly. If anything here is unclear, write to hello@modeamela.com before you buy.

What we collect
When you buy or make a request we collect your name, email address, telephone number and shipping address. If you order a custom or altered piece, or attach measurements to a ready-to-wear order, we also collect the body measurements you choose to give us — height, bust, waist, hips and inseam — together with any notes you write.
If you open live chat without an account, we store your messages and a random identifier held in your browser. We keep only a one-way hash of that identifier, never the identifier itself, and it can reach nothing but your own conversation.
What we do with it
We use it to make and send your order, to answer you, and to keep records we are required to keep. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Who else sees it
Card payments are handled entirely by Stripe. Your card number is entered on Stripe's own page and never reaches us or our website — we receive only whether the payment succeeded and the address you gave for delivery. Our site and database are hosted by Vercel and Supabase. Email is sent through our mail provider. Each of these sees only what it needs to do its job.
Your measurements
Measurements are treated as private order data. They are visible to us so we can cut and fit your garment, and to no one else. Reference images and files you upload with a custom request are stored privately and are not published anywhere on this site.
Your choices
You can see and change your details, addresses and saved measurements at any time from your account. Write to hello@modeamela.com to ask for a copy of what we hold or to ask us to delete it. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to keep records of completed orders where the law requires it.
Business input needed: retention periods, the legal entity name and registered address, and whether CCPA, GDPR or other regimes apply to your customer base. Have this section reviewed by a lawyer before launch.
Terms of sale
By placing an order you agree to these terms. We sell to individual customers for personal use, and we ship only within the United States.
Prices and payment
Prices are shown in U.S. dollars and are confirmed on the payment page before you pay. Payment is taken in full at checkout through Stripe. Your order is not accepted until payment is confirmed — until then nothing is reserved for you.
If a piece is listed at an obviously incorrect price, or is out of stock when we come to fulfil your order, we will contact you and refund you in full rather than send something you did not choose.
Availability
Every piece is made in small numbers. Stock shown on the site is our best current count, and in rare cases a piece may sell out between your order and our fulfilment. If that happens we refund you in full.
Fulfilment
Orders are packed and dispatched by hand rather than by an automated warehouse. See Shipping for what to expect.
Business input needed: governing law and jurisdiction, limitation of liability, and the registered business name and address these terms are made under.
Shipping
We currently ship to United States addresses only. A single flat shipping charge is shown at checkout — there are no carrier menus to choose between and no surprise charges added later.
Orders are dispatched by USPS. Because every order is packed by hand, dispatch is not immediate. Once your parcel is on its way we email you a tracking number, and you can also see it on your account.
We are not able to redirect a parcel once it has been dispatched. Please check your address carefully at checkout — an incorrect address is the most common cause of a lost order.
Business input needed: your dispatch window (for example "within 3 business days"), and whether you will replace parcels marked delivered but not received.
Returns and exchanges
Ready-to-wear
If a ready-to-wear piece is not right, write to hello@modeamela.com and we will arrange a return. Pieces must come back unworn, unwashed and undamaged, with any tags still attached, in their original packaging.
Refunds are issued to the original payment method once we have received and inspected the piece. Your original shipping charge is refunded only where the piece arrived faulty or was not what you ordered.
Faulty or incorrect items
If something arrives damaged, faulty, or is not what you ordered, tell us within 14 days of delivery with a photograph. We will repair, replace or refund it at our cost, including return postage. This does not affect your statutory rights.
What cannot be returned
Custom pieces and altered garments are made or changed to your measurements and cannot be resold, so they are not returnable unless they are faulty or differ from what was agreed. See Custom work.
Business input needed: your return window in days, who pays return postage on a change of mind, and whether you offer exchanges as well as refunds.
Custom work and alterations
Custom pieces begin with a conversation. You send a request through the atelier, we agree the design, timing and price with you in writing, and work begins only once that is settled.
Measurements and fit
Custom garments are cut to the measurements you give us. Please measure carefully, or book a consultation and we will help. We cannot be responsible for fit where the measurements supplied were inaccurate, though we will always try to put it right.
Changes and cancellation
You may change or cancel a custom order at any point before cutting begins. Once cutting has begun the piece cannot be resold, and cancellation is subject to the terms agreed with you in writing at the outset.
Timing
Custom work takes as long as it takes to do properly. We agree a target date with you and tell you promptly if anything changes.
Business input needed: deposit percentage and whether it is refundable, your cancellation terms once work has started, and how many fittings are included.
